Bee Background

Why are they a problem?

Swarms of Honey Bees are common throughout early summer, it is the natural process that Bees go through in order to make new colonies. The Queen leaves her old hive, leaving behind a juvenile queen who will manage that Hive. She leaves the Hive looking for a place to build her new home, taking thousands of bees with her.

When she finds a suitable place to start building a hive, she will settle. Workers will immediately begin to draw comb and within days will have produced honey. If these bees have landed in the open, we can quickly collect them. These Bees are dropped at a local Bee Keeper where they are transferred into a hive. Here, they live a safe and fulfilling life.

How we extract the Bees

When Honey Bees have settled inside a wall, roof space or chimney etc they need to be removed by cutting open the wall or roof and the whole hive and comb removed. This is a very specialist task and qualified tradesmen are needed to complete the building work or roofing, firstly opening the area up and then repairing the area after the hive has been removed.

The use of the latest thermal imaging technology can often help us to identify the exact location of the hive, meaning we can ‘cut out’ with minimal disturbance. With specialist equipment we can gather up the workers and move them with the honeycomb to a place of safety.
